Leslie on MSNBC
During the holiday season of 2006 I appeared as a guest on MSNBC's The Most with Allison Stewart. They asked me to come up with some homemade holiday gift ideas. These projects are adaptable to anytime of the year just use your imagination to add some appropriate seasonal or event related flair. You don't need a holiday season to share these great gift ideas: a sugar body scrub, colorful candle holders, or even a homemade lamp. You will surprised at how simply a lamp comes together when you have all the right parts. Give these ideas a try I guarantee the receiver of these gifts from the heart will be very happy! Holiday Lamp 6" x 8" oval wooden base 14" straight pipe 2 locking nuts 1 hex nut 1 push thru or three way socket 8" harp Harp base 8' lamp cord Lamp shade 3/8" and 1 º" Forstner bit Holiday ornaments or decorative items to fill hurricane Open on both ends glass hurricane
Find center of base on both top and bottom side. On bottom side drill a hole with 1 º" forstner bit half way through the base. On
the top side drill a 3/8" hole all the way through the base. Place the locking nut on the bottom of the straight pipe at the top of
the threading. Feed the pipe through the hole and then use the hex nut on the bottom of the pipe sticking through the hole until the
pipe is tightened into place and will stand strong and sturdy. From the bottom of the base feed the lamp cord through the pipe until
the open wiring is sticking out of the pipe about 4". Place the pint to go container top on the narrow end of the hurricane and poke
a hole in the center to accommodate the pipe. Slide hurricane over the pipe and hot glue along the edge in place onto the base.
Fill the hurricane with adornments. Mine took about 21 medium size ornaments and 30 small ones for filling in. Secure the
locking nut along the top threading of the pipe, then place the harp holder onto the pipe and then screw the socket base onto the pipe.
Make sure you really tighten the three pieces together. Wire the socket, place one wire over each screw on the socket, and wrap the
wire so the wire is feeding the same direction that you tighten the screw so it will not slip off. Place the socket cover over the
wired socket and crimp in place. Attach the 8"harp, screw in light bulb, add shade and turn it on. I added a finial that I glued a
little snowflake you can do what ever you like to complete the look.

Press the starting edge against the glass the secure in place. Make sure you are wrapping the beeswax evenly around the vase. Mark where the beeswax overlaps the starting edge and then trim away the excess beeswax with the ruler and exacto knife. Finish wrapping the trimmed piece of beeswax around the vase. Press the two edges together and press against the glass to secure the wax onto the vase. Use your exacto knife and follow along the top edge of the vase to trim away the excess from the top edge. You can use a single color or create stripes with the beeswax by cutting the sheets into desired size stripes and attaching in the same way. Make sure to use small candles, large candles that come near the edge of the glass vase will melt the beeswax sheet around the outside of the glass.
Brown Sugar Body Scrub
2/3 cup brown sugar ‡ cup almond oil ‡ tsp vitamin E 15 drops essential oil that is safe for use on the body Mix the oils together in a bowl and then add the brown sugar. Mix all of the ingredients well. Place in a jar and wrap up for the holidays. I used frankincense to give it an earthy and festive scent. | |||
